Transitioning from Airlines Operations Leadership to Business Analysis

About Me

Andrew John Holland Profile Photo

Former airline flight operations senior manager with 30+ years’ experience, including Etihad Airways and Gulf Air, where I managed multi-million-dollar enterprise software deployments across flight operations, crew scheduling, and training planning systems (e.g., AIMS, Kronos). My work covered simulator scheduling, crew planning, and operational control center (OCC) integration — ensuring performance, compliance, and cross-department coordination. I’m now focused on AI-assisted Business Analysis and Business Intelligence, actively completing IBM professional pathways and specializations. Also developing SmartWork Suite™, an AI-powered toolkit that connects BA, BI, and PM workflows — currently in soft launch as part of my “GenAI for BA, BI, PM, Executives, Data Analysts, and Data Scientists” campaign.

Currently advancing through IBM’s Business Analyst and Business Intelligence Analyst Professional Certificates while expanding expertise through the GenAI for BA, BI, PM, Executives, Data Analysts and Data Scientist campaign — integrating AI-driven insight and decision intelligence across all professional disciplines. In my personal time, I explore technology through Linux Homelab projects, showcased on my GitHub.(silicastormsiam), focusing on home automation, cybersecurity, and learning Python using Proxmox, complemented by tutorials on my YouTube channel. Business Analysis Case Study

This case study presents selected Business Requirements Document (BRD), Functional Requirements Document (FRD) and Traceability Matrix artifacts authored by Andrew John Holland during work derived from the Etihad Training Academy. It follows the path from business problem to implementable system behavior, showing how requirements are elicited, organized, and translated into functional specifications with clear acceptance criteria and traceability.

The objective is simple: provide a transparent line‑of‑sight from stakeholder objectives to system capability within the AIMS Training Module. Readers can step through the BRD to understand the business context and constraints, then review the FRD to see how those needs are expressed as functional behavior and integration points. Together, the documents illustrate a repeatable, professional Business Analyst workflow suitable for regulated and operationally complex environments.

Collectively, these artifacts above are for download demonstrate a disciplined Business Analysis practice: clear problem framing, stakeholder alignment, and end-to-end traceability from objectives to functional design. The result is a set of materials that shorten review cycles, reduce rework, and provide a reliable foundation for build, test, and operational adoption.

Linux Homelab

My Linux Homelab is a hands-on environment built entirely by me, piece by piece, starting from the motherboard and LAN cards up to the full rack-mounted systems. The purpose was to replicate enterprise-grade IT infrastructure at home while maintaining complete control over design and scalability. Building it myself ensured I understood every layer of hardware and configuration, making the system a living lab for real-world problem solving.

The core of the environment runs on Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) clusters. This setup enables virtualization and containerized workloads, database creation and management, and automated movement of workloads between nodes using high-availability clustering. Testing live migration across the datacenter allowed me to validate redundancy, uptime, and resource balancing at a level usually seen in production-grade IT.

Supporting the clusters, I integrated advanced networking and security. Managed networks use VLAN segmentation, while link aggregation (LACP) provides performance and failover between dual-port NICs. At the perimeter, Netgate firewall administration with orchestration of firewall rules gives fine-grained control over traffic and layered security. Automated backup pipelines and hardened configurations keep the environment resilient, making it both a testing ground and a reliable production platform for my personal and professional projects.

YouTube Channel – AI Future Uncovered

AI Future Uncovered is my YouTube channel built entirely with AI tools. Every stage of production—research, scripting, narration, voiceovers, image generation, subtitles, thumbnails, and editing—was handled by AI. The project began as an experiment to prove a faceless channel could be designed and maintained professionally without traditional studio resources.

The content covers Artificial Intelligence in a beginner-friendly, educational way. Topics include AI fundamentals, the five generations of AI, the seven stages of AI development, Natural Language Processing vs GPT, Artificial General Intelligence, and the impact of ChatGPT 4 and Samsung’s Galaxy AI. Each video is structured to simplify complex technical concepts into clear, fact-based explanations while keeping viewers engaged.

While it demonstrates the creative power of AI in media production, the channel has a personal story behind it. I originally created the content so my 80-year-old mother could better understand AI and ease her fears about it. After watching the videos, she felt reassured and more confident. In that way, AI Future Uncovered became not only an educational platform for the public but also a personal project that shows how AI can inform, empower, and inspire across generations.
